Minister's Message"...I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle." ~ Buddhist monk, peace activist and writer Thich Nhat Hanh "This is why the Good has come into your midst. It acts together with the elements of your nature so as to reunite it with its roots." ~ from the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, translated by Jean-Yves Leloup We are in the depths of our winter season, even though there has been little snow to affirm that reality. But we know Spring will come. Every year it seems to take an enormous amount of patience, even a bit of faith to remember that the season we are in is always moving toward the next cycle. President's Letter“Becoming Real” What a ride it’s been this church year at WUC! From the board retreats this summer, to midwinter preparation for the annual budget process, we’ve hardly had time to reflect. If we were clairvoyant, would our church look from the outside the same as it feels from within? As full of fresh ideas, innovative programs, and energetic members feeling their way towards greater clarity about who we are, where we are going and what it takes to move us along… I hope so!S.E.E.K.Announcing a revitalized program for All Families Welcome! For families with children, we offer something for everyone. If you have an infant or toddler, we have provided a family pew on the south side of the church with stuffed toys, paper, markers and crayons, and books. You are welcome to sit there, or take any of the materials to another spot to help keep your child happy during services. A rocking chair and quilt are also available to parents with babies. The Tower ClockBy Frank Kebbell It was more than fifteen years ago on the occasion of a church outing – we climbed Fall Mountain as I remember – that our then Minister Sandra Whippie approached me to see if I would be interested in taking on the job of clock winder. I haven't regretted it. New Visitors’ PackagesThe Membership Committee has transformed our visitors’ packets into visitors’ “gift bags.” They are located near the guest book at the back of the church. An Invitation from Rev. Sandra WhippieWould you like to serve on the Monadnock Friends of Tibet Committee?? This committee has been active for about ten years befriending two Tibetan families who settled in Keene and helping to educate the Monadnock community (southwestern NH and southeastern Vermont). We meet about four times a year and plan events as well as discuss issues of modern Tibet and Tibetans in our community. Some members of our committee are involved because of their commitment to religious freedom for all, some have visited Tibet or been involved with Tibetans outside of their home country. This committee is identified as a 'Joint Social Action" of the WUC with the Keene UU Church but includes people of various religious histories and convictions. Call Rev. Sandra Whippie at (603) 355-2286 for more information. Calling All Mystics!Mysticism is the pursuit of communion with, identity with, or conscious awareness of an ultimate reality, divinity, spiritual truth through direct experience, intuition, instinct or insight.
