One Church, Two States

The Walpole Unitarian Church is located in the town of Walpole, NH but like the town is deeply identified with the Connecticut River Valley region. Our church history describes how our story has been entwined with the Bellows family, for whom Bellows Falls, Vermont is named. From much of the high ground in town, views to the west overlook the river valley – and Vermont. We are a region of connected towns and villages.

Our church today illustrates this continued interaction. The current board of trustees has two members from Bellows Falls, Vermont and three from Walpole, New Hampshire. We have members and friends from Walpole, Alstead, Langdon and Keene, New Hampshire. We have members and friends from Brattleboro, Bellows Falls, Westminster, Saxton’s River, and Putney, Vermont. The church interacts with the other churches in the Walpole Community on a regular basis and collaborates with the First Universalist Parish of Chester, Vermont where Rev. Telos also serves. While our church buildings are in the heart of Walpole, the heart of the church is in our twin-state river valley community.

Our Mission

The Walpole Unitarian Church recognizes individual freedom, embraces diversity, and supports the development of a caring community. It promotes lifelong exploration of spirituality including, but not limited to, traditional religious thoughts and beliefs.

Our Objectives

  • To work toward more participatory worship.
  • To recognize authority coming from within and gained in community
    rather than received from above.
  • To apply UUA Principles and Purposes in our lives.
